3 October: Bracknell Cavaliers Saints 0 Ashridge Park Royals 5

Today saw the 1st Round of the Cup on a fine autumnal morning. Bracknell Cavalier Saints had been very strong opponents last season, convincing 3-0 victors at St Crispins last October and 2-0 winners in the early stages of the Ashridge Park post-xmas renaissance.
In the absence of Todd, Dom and Peter it was necessary to reshuffle the pack, and the absence of a first choice keeper and centre half and respect for the strength of the opposition resulted in a slightly more defensive formation with the team going with a conventional 4-4-2 and James taking on the goalkeeping role.
Ashridge started confidently, moving the ball round very skilfully, and it appeared that we had taken the lead on 10 minutes when Ted converted Ben C’s inch perfect cross on 10 minutes, however Ted was adjudged offside.
A Ted corner was forced over the line with Dan’s persistence on 13 minutes, 2 minutes later Ben W converted Ben C’s free-kick with his chest to put Ashridge in the driving seat.
On half an hour, George surged forward and set up Ted for 3-0, and then on 42 minutes, George again piled forward setting up Ted whose chance was saved by the onrushing keeper, only for the ball to fall to Sid 25 yards out who coolly planted the ball into the unguarded net.
4-0 at half time.
It took just 2 minutes of the 2nd half for Ted to set up Sid for another goal, to put Ashridge into an unassailable 5-0 lead.
Other chances were created involving Alex, Owen, Ted, Sid and Dan, but there were to be no more goals.
To beat a team as strong as Bracknell Cavaliers Saints and keep a clean sheet is excellent and the boys can be proud of their day’s work today
